I am a 20 yr old soldier in the us army currently stationed in iraq. In the little free time I get each day I use it all thinking about my newly bought 1993 Ford Mustang GT. I want to have everything for the car so I can rebuild it when I come home.

Its an automatic right now but im fixing that. Not sure if I want to go with the T5 or T56 yet. It depends on the cashflow I guess. Im having the motor rebuilt by a guy and I know he is going to do the 347 stroker kit for me while im gone. Besides that, the only other thing I want done is the motor and trans taken out, and the paint job.

Im going to get a Cobra R Hood from Cervinis before it goes to the body shop to get straightened out the little it needs and to have it painted.

I want the car to be perfect. Its my dream and I think I deserve it. I've already purchased most of the things necessary for restoring it, (the molding, cowls, and little things the interior was missing).

I also have a MSD Ignition System, 2.5" Flowmaster Catbacks, Bassini X pipe and full length headers for the car.

I want to know what else I should do to get the best performance. I'm good on the motor and transmission stuff along with the rear end but im stumped in the handling dept. I have 17x10 rims for it with a 5 lug conversion.

What should I do to lower it about 1-2" and keep the handling? Do they make a kit for the conversion of the tranny? I keep looking for one and cant find it anywhere. Also, I keep looking for a rear disc brake kit and cant find one of those either. So, do I go with rear discs or with a big brake kit in the front.. or both?

Any other advise will be greatly appreciated as this is my first mustang and I always wanted a fox so I dont want a half assed car fellas if you know what I mean.

I appreciate your time, consideration, and support.

thanx,
PFC Slagle

First off, thank you for your efforts over there. I know a few who have served over there. So, I know its not all what we see on TV.

There isn't a conversion kit for the tranny. You'll need to get the pedal box from a salvage yard. Obviously, you'll need a clutch quadrant and cable setup.

If you're doing a five-lug conversion, you can get two left side axleshafts from a Ranger or Aerostar van. That will get you five lugs in the rear.

Thanks for your work in the sandbox.  You guys are great Americans.

About your conversion kit, contact http://www.mpsautosalvage.com/  near Atlanta.  They put together kits for this swap quite often.  I think the price range is around $1800.00 including the transmission.  All parts are used, of course. They will be able to supply almost every replacement piece you need.
Good luck.

For street handling I would call up the Maximum Motorsports crew.  They are a group and will talk to you to make sure you get a package that can deliver what you want.  I am currently running H&R springs from them in my '95 GT with an '03 cobra IRS.  They are one of the few spring providers that would work with me on this mixed combination.

Big Thanks to my friends at KR Performance and Restoration out of Nebraska
