I have a 05 gt 5 speed. I’ve only owned it for about 6 months and ive been saving up to put some mods on her. I already have 2 chamber flowmasters and a predator tuner on the car so its pretty much stock. I don’t want to go the route of spending a bunch of money for bolt on’s and getting really no hp out of them. So I was looking to put some 4.10 gears from ford racings, the problem im having is I still want to drive the car 1000 miles in one direction and still be reliabel. I was going to go with some 3.73 but I was thinking going from 3.55 to 3.73 wouldn’t be that much of a change and not worth the money. So my question to all you other fellow s197 owners out there. wich is the best choice of gears for a guy that wants to use his car as a daily driver and have fun at the drag strip on the weekend? Could someone give me some insight or if any of you all have done this swap or not?

Hey, I have an 06 GT that I put 4:10's in, and I believe it is fine. About 2500 RPM at 70 miles an hour. Took it to the track and ran 13.7's with a 5 speed. Wheel hop seems to be the only problem. Lower control arms is my next trick. Good luck, hope it was helpful. Dennis

You should consider a 3.90 a definite improvement over the 3.55 but more user friendly than the 4.10. And the is no fear of losing more than 1-2 mpg.

Actually i am still with the 3.55 and waiting on the money for 3.90 and a Posi.
Just about every other car in the club we belong to has 4.10's. now they sound great and all but driveability and mileage is almost more important than the quick take off for me. Gas just cost to much especially for a ride my wife commutes 50+ miles a day. Basically my point is how often will you actaully use the 4.10. Atleast the 3.90 is a happy medium between the two.

This may not help,  I have a 04 MACH-1, Had the same thoughts. I went with the 4.10s, I can't compare it to 3.73 but love the way it runs.  I drove it to the races in June in Petersburg Va. About 140 miles one way. i drove most the way around 75 and had no trouble  under 3000 rpm  I also got 22.4 mpg  to my suprice.

4.10's were installed in my 04GT and I loved them. Getting them put in the 08GT next week.

How bad is the wheel hop though?

i made a post like this just a day or so ago! lol
i'm gonna avoid touching the gears for now, but the 4.10's where recommended to me as the best bang for my buck

I have an 03 mach 1 that I put a set of 4.30s in. I have not noticed a difference in the driveability of the car. At 65 the rpms are around 2350.
