I've been reading up on all the hype of the beginning of the new pony car wars about to unfold in 2009! This is so very cool as I was in high school during the original muscle car wars of the 60's/70s and drove a 73 Mustang Mach 1 in my junior year of high school. I'm concerned though! As a long time Mustang fan, I am aware that 2009 will see a redesigned and more powerful GT Mustang hit the streets to compete with the resurrected Camaro and Challenger. I was tempted (very) to buy a 2007 Mustang GT but have decided to wait till 09 to see the redesigned Mustang. I have read that the Camaro is expecting to be punching out 400 hp and the Challenger will be packing a hemi! I've also read that the new 09 Mustang GT will get nudged up to 340-350 hp but I don't think thats enough! If the newly designed 09 Mustang is going to take on Camaro and Challenger, they need to equip that new GT Mustang with 400 hp minimum!

From what we know, both the Camaro and Challenger will be offered with a couple of different V8 powerplants. That being said the base V8 will probably be in the 350hp range and the high RT and SS/Z28 models will get 400-430hp engines. We would guess that Mustang will offer a higher performance model as has been the case for a while now.
