I have a '92 GT with a 306 short block with AFR 165 heads, crane cams, 1.7 cobra roller rockers,BBK SSI intake manifold, 24lb. injectors, recallibrated mass air flow sensor, MSD pro billet distributor, BBK cold air intake, a PA performance automatic racing transmission. I am having a problem setting the ignition timing. The way I have doing it is once the vehicle is at normal operating temperature I shut the car off, pull the in line spout connector out, then I start the car, and time it to 13 BTDC.... I know stock is 10 BTDC. After timing vehicle to 13, I shut the car off and reinstall the spout connector. The problem is when I start the car back up the timing is almost at 20 BTDC...while the vehicle is runnig I pull the spout connector out and timing lowers itself to 0. I don't know if this is normal. Sometimes when I start the car and accelerate the car will pop and backfire. The reason I know there is a timing issue is because my vehicle is running hot after I just replaced the water pump, thermostat, and added a Felx-a-lite metal fan and eliminated the fan clutch and added a spacer. But when I do set the timing to 13 BTDC with the in line spout connector out then shut the car off put spout connector back in and I recheck the timing its at like 20. It seems like when I put that *** spout connector back in it advances the timing way past where it should be. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THE PROPER PROCEDURE OF SETTING THE TIMING!!!!

START THE CAR BEFORE YOU UNPLUG CONNECTER. TRY SETTING YOUR BASE TIMING AT NO MORE THAN 12 BTDC WITH THE SPOUT CONNECTER OUT, THEN SHUT CAR OFF AND REINSTALL CONNECTER. RESTART ENGINE TIMING SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 18 BTDC AT IDLE 600-800RPM. IF STILL HAVING TROUBLE YOU MAY HAVE TO ADD A CRANK TRIGGER WITH YOUR MSD DISTRIBUTOR TO KEEP COMPUTER FROM CHANGING TIMING SO MUCH. ALMOST ALL SBF ENGINES WITH ANY MODIFICATIONS RUN HOTTER THAN NORMAL. DO AWAY WITH THE ENGINE FAN AND ADD A ELECTRIC FAN IT WILL KEEP YOU COOLER AND FREE UP SOMEMORE HORSE POWER ALSO MAKE SURE THERE IS NOTHING ABSTRUCTING AIR FLOW THROUGH THE RADIATOR. IF YOUR CAR STILL HAS A/C CONDENSOR IN FRONT OF RADIATOR YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER REMOVING IT. JUST BECAUSE IT IS RUNNING A LITTLE HOTTER THAN NORMAL NOW DOES NOT MEEN YOU ARE HAVING TIMING ISSUES

Whats up? My name is Will and i am wondering how to post in this forum? I have looked every where? Well i have a 88 gt with forged pistons, e-303 cam, gt-40 heads, crane cams coil and i cant get the timing on it... So i want to post it so i can get a reply. I wonder if i would do the same thing that was posted for you or if the timing would be a little different? Well if you will get back to me thank you. Oh yea what is the spout connector?
