i just put a new high flow fuel pump in my 89' hatchback while the transmission was out getting rebuilt and i put the tranny in last week and its not starting now it will turn over but not start. its getting spark from the ignition system i tested that. so im thinking its with the fuel pump but the pump whines up like it always does when i start it. but it might be something with another fuel system component. if anyone has any ideas or solutions let me know i would appreciate it.

if u know the fuel pump is running, check to make sure you have fuel at the fuel rail by poking the schrader valve on the fuel rail(looks like a tire valve) make sure u have fuel spraying out, b careful it will be under pressure,if you have fuel their, youre next step will be to check injector pulse with a noid light, this will tell u if the injectors are opening to let fuel in the combustion chamber

It sounds like you have more than one problem. I would resolve your "no crank" problem first. Check for 12 volts at your starter soleniod from your ignition switch. If no voltage is present with the key in the crank postion, you probably have a bad ignition switch. If you do have power in the crank position, you may have a bad soleniod. Check for power on the output side of the solenoid, with the key in crank (or try jumping the two posts of the soleniod with a screwdriver.) If everything is good, check for 12 volts at the starter with the key in crank again. If all of that is good, check all grounds or replace your starter. Let me know what you find.
