I JUST BOUGHT A 88 MUSTANG LX 5.0, HERE IS A LIST OF THINGS THAT WAS DONE BEFOR I BOUGHT IT THEN I WILL TELL THE PROBLEM. IT HAS A 410 GEAR, NEW DUEL EXAUST, THE 02 SENSOR WAS REMOVED. THE CAM HAS BEEN CHANGED NOT SURE WHAT CAM WAS USED. THE CAR IDELS AROUND 2000 RPM AND HAS A STUDDER IN IT WHEN YOU REV IT UP.I TALKED TO A GUY THAT KNOWS THE FUEL INJECTED CARS & HE TOLD ME THE COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE CHANGED TO A 93 COMPUTER AND WIREING HARNESS.IT HAS A AOD TRANNY WITH A B&M RATCHET SHIFTER A 3 SPEED SHIFTER, HOW CAN YOU GET THE CAR TO SHIFT TO 2 GEAR & STAY. IT WILL STAY IN 2ND IF YOU HAVE IT MATTED TO THE FLOOR, IF NOT IT SHIFTS ON TO DRIVE. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Hey, I had a 91 gt automatic a few years ago and I wondered the same thing. With the factory shifter you can pull the shifter down to first then when you want to shift it to second you do so then pull it back to first and it will stay in second. When you want to shift it to drive you just shift it to second and it will go to drive. I had a shift kit put in my tranny and manuly shifted this way all time time. (its funner that way)

Your idling issue is most likely due to the Speed Density computer that your Mustang was originally equipped with. You'll need to do a mass air conversion to get the idle control back, short of a cam swap.
