I'm going to be starting a project in the next few months and I'm trying to decide on what engine to put in it. I was thinking a nice solid 351 Windsor from a crate but maybe a used 302 and just mod it. It'll be a daily driver so I'm looking for practicallity more than a track star, but I want it to be fun to drive. So I'll have to find that happy medium. Any Ideas?

one thing to think about is a bigger engine (351-408)will work less to make same power. more parts & mods for 302 to make as much power as 351.just my 2 cents.

I had a 351w in a '95 GT and it was a blast. I think if you're starting a project from scratch, go with a 351 based motor. More cubes, more power potential, and a stock 351 block is much stronger than a 302 block. Even if you're beginning with a stock 5-liter car, I wouldn't spend money on parts for the 302.

I am seriously considering the 351 for the exact reasons you mentioned, evil. While the 302 is a strong and durable engine, the Windsor sounds like there's less muss and fuss in attaining the power I'm looking for. Although I haven't totally decided yet.

The 302 will be better for a daily driver, not that i'm not a fan of the 351, but gas prices are hitting ridiculous prices. You'll be wishin you went with the 302. Besides with only a few modifications you'll have plenty of power.

428 Just go big or go home although Gas is gettin ridiculous i think the 302 would be just fine for the daily driver. THen even if its not enough for you you can always through a supercharger or some twin turbos onto the stock motor what ever you have in it.
