Automatic to 5-speed or 6-speed manual?

hello i have a 2002 mustang GT convertible with an automatic and was wondering if it is possible to swap out the automatic for a 5 or 6 speed.. how to and steps to do it? is it possible?

possible - yes. and not too difficult. first, decide if you want a 5- or 6-speed. both will fit. for a 6-speed, grab a cobra cross member. buy a nice flywheel with the correct off balance. same with clutch. as far as difference in driveshaft length between an auto and stick...i don't know. you can call your local dealer for that info. you will need a new bellhousing. and a clutch pedal assembly (a real pain to install). also a stick shift console plate. shifter, of course. and that should be it. most of this stuff you can grab at a junkyard for cheap$$$$. for specifics on how to do the swap, google "aod to 5-speed swap" and you should get some good results. the steps are much the same on a 2002 as they are on a fox body (most of the links you find will pertain to foxes). I did the swap on my '88 5.0 LX, and other than running to sears every once in a while to grab the necessary tools, things went smoothly. and the tko500 5-speed i installed is still in the car 4 years later.
