I was looking for a new transmission for my 89 LX with a 331 stroker engine. Someone told me that a tremec would be a suitable tranny but I can't seem to find one anywhere including E bay Help please.

I agree with Lord. I speak from experience....I am running a 530hp 86 GT...and I just installed a TKO 600 Tremec. It is an AWESOME transmission. It takes a little getting used to because the shift pattern is tighter than a T5, but so far, it has held up very nicely to everything I have thrown at it. It shifts very smooth, and isnt really all that noisy as I excpected. I highly recommend it. Mr86GT

Thanks for the advice. I have read some review about the TKO 600 and some of them say that there are "noice dampeners." I have no clue what they are talking about but though maybe you all might know.

I have decided to get a TKO as well for my supercharged 331 combo, since my stock T-5 just went tango uniform (lasted about 700 miles). Does the TKO 500/600 take anything special to install, or is it a direct T-5 replacement? I just put a new clutch and flywheel in, and got a FMS aluminum driveshaft installed, and I'd hate to have to replace new parts. So will my current T-5 bellhousing and driveshaft work? How about gear ratios? I have a 3.55 rear gear ratio, and have been struggling with the proper speedo gear. I think I narrowed it down to a 23 tooth gear, but I want to make sure before I do the tranny swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SAME info needed here!
Thanks greatly for helping us *both* swap out our puny factory T-5s with a Tremec 5-or-6-speed, and also have accurate speedometers.
And a very *Happy Easter Sunday* to us all!
