This is to the writers of the red-headed step-child article. I've been following this story because thats the same year car as mine. And I was wondering if you can tell me what a switch chip is. Is it a programmer or a chip? Is there a button you push to get your nitrous program in? Is the timing retarded the whole time in anticipation of the nitrous or does it retard it right when the nitrous engages? I love your magazine! I learn AT LEAST one new thing every time I open one up! By the way my ride has 4.10's,trick flow plenum,pp 75mm tb, k&n fipk kit, bbk underdrive pulleys, bbk 255 lph pump, hp motorsports lower control arms, x-pipe, flowmasters chopped after 2.5 inches, zex nitrous, saleen body kit, lowered, cobra wheels, with 4.6 high performance badges. Its coming along really well! Now for my pearl white paint.....

A flip-chip is a computer chip that has two programs. You flip a switch to change to the other program. It is usually used for naturally aspirated tune and a nitrous tune, or a pump gas tune and race fuel tune. Anytime you need two different tune ups, you can run a flip chip to accomodate both tunes. I think most programming done today is using hand-held programmers instead. The ones from SCT and DiabloSport have provisions to hold multiple tunes, to suit the situation like a flip chip.

Thanks Mike. I have one more question. If I get the SCT XCalibrator3 do you think they can make me a tune for what I have? Or will I be able to make my own tune with the programmer? I do have access to a dynojet.

You will need to have a shop with the SCT software make the custom tune up for your car. I think they might offer what's called the SCT Racer Package, that allows you to adjust a lot more stuff. I recommend you have a shop who normally handles tuning do the tune up and load it into the XCal 3. That is probably your best bet.
