Hey, Just bought an '89 5-spd Notchback that has been a dedicated road racer for the last 9 years. The car has Maximum Motorsports everything, AutoPower cage, gutted of everything (and I mean everything) except one power seat from '96 Mustang. The engine is stock except for a pretty healthy cam (of unknown specs;not too big as power brakes still work great) I want to get the car street legal again and don't care about comfort. The DMV here in AZ won't register it because it's classified as "For Racing Use Only". They are giving me temp. tags for now as I told them I was restoring it. It has had the AIR pump, cats and charcoal canister removed and has no O2 sensor. I need to find out what is the bare minimum of emissions equipment I have to put back on to get it to pass inspection and get it registered. Alredy been to the junkyard and got AIR pump and charcoal canister from a 5.0 Towncar. Don't want to put the AIR pump on if I can get away with it. I don't mind the cats and charcoal canister, though. Any advice you guys can give would be a great help and I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

You'll need to make sure the thermactor tube is attached to both cylinder heads at the back of the engine, and then you'll also need to get the valve and hoses that connect that tube to the air pump and exhaust system. Cams can make a car's exhaust signature pretty dirty, so that may be a problem, but i wouldn't worry about it until you have added all of the smog equipment and it still fails. You'll also need to make sure that the EGR valve is still hooked up at the intake.
