would like to discuss the swap of a 1996-1998 mustang 4.6 cobra dohc modular v8 with a lincoln mark VII motor. have been told they are the same block with different intake and flywheel. want to discuss the foreseen problems and tricks and help for people like me who are looking to save a few bucks... this is becoming a popular rumor since every everyone is charging an arm and a leg for wore out cobra motors and the lincoln is a DOHC 4.6

i have found out the lincoln is the same but has a gt style crank so you need a gt flywheel.

I have a 93 mark 8 with the dohc 4.6 I'm told the difference on it and a 96 cobra is the intake and the crankshaft. Mine is cast and the cobra is forged steel. I plan on putting a turbo on mine and using the forged crank out of one cost about 650 but schucks say they have remans for 230. But I've heard from many forums that mine is still good for 450hp were as the cobra is good for 600+. I would be suprised if the flywheel is different I think mine also had a 8 bolt. mostly the same drive train different gearing I think even the rear suspension is off of the stangs but mine has bags instead of springs ect maybe different splin. I do wounder about cam profiles. But it sounds like they put out the same amount of hp and torque.
