Your goal for this car is, to put it politely, vague.  By track i'm going to assume dragrace. By track car, can I assume it will be trailored to and from the dragstrip and will not have to go through emissions testing and safety test drives? What do you want to run? 13's, 12's,11's, 10's, 9's.? I've seen/built them all over the years.  (The nature of the question assumes you will be running a windsor platform and not a big block). There are a ton of guys running in the l1's and 10's with fuel injection with N/A combinations. (The Factory Stock class is the finest example )  Do a mass air conversion,  lighten up the car to 2800 lbs/3000lbs with driver and you will have the platform for a very fun/competitive car.

the car will be ran at the drags..  I live about 20 minutes from cecil county dragway in MD.  I might build the car also for the street, but not as a daily driver.  It has a stock 351w now, but planning on a 408w with AFR 225's, victor j.r. with a big carb.. want to keep it simple.  The car will be trailered to the track.  wanting to run close to mid 10's..... not really looking to run in full comp, just building a toy...

I've been runnng an all out drag 89 mustang conv for 4 years now using a simple 348" factory block roller/artcarr aod trans 3000 stall conv. 430 gears. The car is a blast to drive and runs consistant 670s in the 1/8 mi-best 60ft of 1.36 on 10.5 drag tire. The car has been lightned to 2600lbs w/driver.The reason I'm telling you this is the ease of using the smaller windsor motor. A 408 is good but if I was going to build one like that I definiteley pony up for a dart block.

thanks for the responses.  The car will be trailered.  but used for local street driving to car shows.  The car is gutted and plan to make it light as possible.

my main question is carb or EFI.  not a genius on tunning, but can learn.  The simpler the better. i hope to see high 10's after the car is complete.
