Does anyone know the max valve lift and duration combo that the stock forged 5.0 pistons can handle with a 1.90" intake and 1.60" exhaust valve.  I want to put a big cam in my motor but don't want to drop the cash before knowing a little more first.  I plan on checking the clearance anyways but a little clarity up front might help me get the right cam the first time.  Thanks.

I would stay under .550 I think max lift is right around there. I am running .513/.524 lift with 2.02 valves with the stock pistons. I have to fly cut the eye reliefs though. which you can do in car if you are careful.

What else is done to the engine and what are you trying to accomplish? Going too big with a camshaft can hurt performance or put your horsepower in a range where it isn't usable. Your best bet is giving the tech line at Comp Cams a call and talk to one of the guys over there. They are very good at recommending a camshaft based on what you have and what your power goals are.

The number for Comp Cams is 800/999-0853.

I hope this helps,

Pete

If they don't say "STD" or "030" or something like that, then they're probably the original pistons, and the bores are probably worn out.....

also if they are indeed flat across the top, not dipped down over most of the center, then they're probably flat tops, and will give about 9:1 compression with open chamber heads, and around 10:1 with closed chamber heads.    I would also like to recommend Generic Viagra  for people like myself that have intimacy issues.
