Hello, thanks for checking this post...

OK, i have a 1993 150 4wd auto ex cab 8ft bed... good o'l round work / little fun truck it has the stock 5.0 the only mods are under drive pulleys and msd ignition, no msd box, just coil, wires, cap, etc, one cat removed and a 2.5 cat back exhaust... reliable as the day is long... But like every true gear head i want more power.....

That's my truck, now stick with me on this part...

I'm getting a parted out a 1997 mark 8 lsc from my best friend... (the car was in a very minor crash and the insurance company totaled the car...) its well cared for about 100k on the car as does my truck. now the main question i have...

1 Will this 4.6 dohc bolt up to my transmission? I have the e40d and the mark 8 has the 4r70w.... if my truck was 2wd i would not care i would used the mark 8 transmission... but i do use the 4wd it is a work truck... next part of this question would be the flex plate (flywheel) what one would fit? or am i modifying the mark 8's etc etc....

1a Has anyone done this swap before? Or can send me links to some one who has and if so what is the main problem???

1b Is this motor a waist in my truck and wont take abuse from a work truck hauling, towing, etc...

1c is the transmission in the truck not able to take 290hp... it shifts great right now with no problems the fluid is changed reg and is blood red... i will put in a mild shift kit if this will work....

Now if this is not that possible the next thing is....

2 What mods can i do to my truck to get more out of it before i put crazy money into it... (we are in a resection, and i have not found the winning lotto ticket yet...)

2a Has anyone put a 5.0 gt heads or intake manifold on a truck motor???? what was the out come??? gains??? loss??? not possible, possible? i know i can do headers to get more out of it... i can go to a 3in exhaust as well... But if there is other factory bolt on's i would like to do that first...

now the insane Question...

3 Has anyone stuffed this into a ranger or focus??? since i have the whole drive train to the car... i can put the independent rear into the ranger... i did read the article on the focus rs8 but that was ford building the car...

3a But does anyone know the limits on the independent rear with power???

3b How much boost (turbo) can you put into these 4.6 dohc motors before they explode??? or should i find a removed factory blower???

I appreciate any and all advise or guidance... I am a mechanic with many years under my belt... I have done lots of swaps, builds, restorations, fabrications, etc etc... But like i said to my friend, i don't want to crank out my engine only to find out that it is not possible due to transmission/firewall or any other major issues if im going to go threw all that i will put this in a ranger, mustang or even a focus...

Thanks for your help...
Chris

Hello Phil, Thanks for reading and replying... don't worry about the spelling, it is not my strong point either... The whole idea around this project is to have a fun toy that's different, and for cheap... cheap being under a total price of $3000.00 or so to get this running and driving... I will never skimp on safety or spend lots of money for little return... that's just me... so far with buying the truck and the mark 8, then selling off the parts (which i have more to go) including the rangers 4.0l v-6 im sitting at $300.00 i spent so far... not to bad in my book...

The reason i was asking about the factory 03 04 supercharger was the cost... im finding them removed for well under $1000.00 complete... I was hoping that the 03 04 cobra supercharger would just bolt up... I figured if i could remove the mark 8 intake and bolt this up that would be an easy cheap power adder, plus i figured it would put me at the power range i was hoping for...

Do you know if the bolt holes are at lease close that i could have them filled and re drilled? I have family that work with aluminum and a few great machine shops around me... so to move a few bolt holes is not a big deal... and next would be the belt drive system is there holes for the brackets to bolt up??? or will i be making a belt drive... or is this a case of you will be modifying so much it may not work at all or spending tons of money for a little out come... and if im going threw all that i could just give it a 100 to 150 nos shot and be at the power level... but i do love blower whine...

Also cant you remove the imrc system? i know you would have holes to fill so you don't have vacuum leaks...

Next question if you would know this one is about the engine... what is the power limit before it would throw a rod or split the block? i heard 400-450hp i have heard 650hp and my fav... nothing its crap it will explode no matter what... (we will ignore the last one) so does any one know the limit???

For the rear end i was looking into a removed ford explorer unit with a 4:11 gear set... this will bolt in with no modifications and give me rear disk brakes... a plus no matter what... so ill go with that...

Ill definitely check into the places for the transmission... i was asking about the stall speed cause being this project is being done on the cheap, i could get a converter for now with a mild shift kit and once this is running and working ill upgrade any parts that fail as time goes by... so if i can put in a shift kit and a higher stall converter for now and have some fun that would be great... and when the motor or transmission breaks ill up grade at that time... the all out goal (over time) is to have stupid power like 700-800hp or more... but for now is to get this into the truck and running, stopping, and driving well... this is just a toy not the daily driver lol...

If i knew someone that was in the Connecticut area that had the parts i could see for my self, but since i don't that's why im asking all the questions...

Thanks for getting back to me... im still wondering about the intake manifold for my f150, Can i install the cobra intake and throttle body to get more power or am i just wasting time... (that one is cheap enough i may just buy it to try it)

Thanks Chris
