Apparently I have a 1985 3.8 throttle body Capri engine in the 83 mustang I bought. It will only start if I put gas down the throttle body then it runs poor. Can any one verify that this engine needs 2 fuel pumps and if so were is the inline mounted and what is the recommended pressure for the in line pump. mikeladeroute@hotmail.com

which wiring harness and computer did you install... the EEC 3 or the EEC 4... there are differences... the eec 3 system uses 8 volt relays... the eec4 uses 12 volt relays... the voltage to the sensors is also different... but the sensors are the same..... 8 volt eec 4.. 5 volt eec 4...
i would examine the coolant temp sensor wiring... and the sensor... since the coolant temp sensor and the air charge temp sensor wires are twisted pairs and run across the top of the intake... over the back of the motor... and across to the ecm sticking in the firewall... i have found several of these early wiring harnesses to have crispy insulation that falls off.. this allows the wires to come into contact with each other... sending a full 5 volts back to the ecm... instead of the normal signal return...
sometimes you have to remove and open the harness to repair it... replacement wire terminals are available.. so you can map out what color wires go into which connector port... prying out the red plastic lock.. then you can with some pick tools to unlatch the terminal from the connector body...
you can pull codes out of a EEC 3 car... by applying vacuum to the BARO sensor port... the TAD/TAB solenoids on the firewall will click trouble codes... first one.. then the other....
see i have been here before... fixed a bunch of them.... the throttle position sensor wires also take a hit from heat..
i had another friend with an 84 CV... that had the bad wires.. i replaced the ends and a few inches of harness that were exposed... that was a few years ago... they need the rest of the harness repaired... but don't think that because it works when you giggle the harness that there is any problem needing the harness be removed and opened... so they just wiggle and drive.. wiggle and drive.. the biggest problem is most of the manuals gloss over the EEC3 system... when i had a 83 eec 3 tbird... it came with a set of 7 manuals for the 83.. but when i needed eec 3 info.. the ford manual said it is not covered in these factory service manual... so if you have more problems... i do drop by here once in a while.. or send me a PM by clicking on my name after you log in...

thanks for the info don't get much time to work on it. will check these out. i think it might have something to do with the eec relay. i cant find a wiring diagram for it.

Ok here it is. I think the wiring harness is out of a 85 cougar the ecm is a E73F-PA. First I have no power to the coil with ignition on. That wire from the coil runs into a main power harness. What feeds power to that harness? Off the coil I have 2 green wires one goes to the ignition module, the other I believe goes to the ECM, I have 2 wires off the ECM not hooked up looks like white and pink and the other looks like gray and maroon. The white and pink has a connector on the end with no cover. Should this go to power, if so were? Should the other coil wire go the gray and maroon to the ecm?
