Need help, new to this site.  Just got an 83 GT.  Ran when I bought the car.  Guy I bought from put on two new fuel pumps before he got it run smooth.  While on the trailer it ran for awhile, hit the gas & it died.  Has not run since.  It will run if you dump gas in the carb but only till it runs out.  Checked the carb, didn't pump any gas into it. Took off the fuel line, no gas pumps out while, reconnected, tried putting fuel line from pump into gas can, still nofuel to the carb or thru the line.  Got another new fuel pump, same thing.  Any assistance would be great.  How does this fuel pump run.  There was no rod that dropped down during removal, should there be.  Just wondering if it was installation issue.

Sounds like a problem with the eccentric that bolts to the end of the cam to operate the pumps arm that goes into the block. To check it you'll have to remove the water pump and timing cover to see whats wrong with it.The bolt on the eccentric could have backed out and left it back off the pin that positions it so that it will turn with the cam.If it did back out check the timing cover good it could have worn a hole in it and you'll have to get it welded up or get a new cover.

Edit:Just noticed the age of the post after posting.

Thanks for the reply.  I will check that out as i have not had a chance to get back to it.  Still wonder if just a problem with gas line from the tank.

since you ran a direct line from a gas can too the pump with no fuel than your problem lies in the pump and if its new than check the eccentric on the timming chain and you should find your problem
we will all have our day in court (tickets suck)

you guys are right. I had an 82 that did the same thing. It sucks to pull all the crap off the front of an engine just to tighten down a bolt.

Well, got everything taken off.  Not sure it's the fuel eccentric.  Bolt was tight, and it was aligned with the pin. Noticed the pin barely goes through the hole, but eccentric was not freely spinning.  Timing chain way of of wack. Had lots of slack in it. Research shows the eccentric to be a two piece, mine is one.  Not sure of the significance there.  Would the slack in the timing chain be the issue?  I have checked all the fuel line, blew air through the tank, and back from the lines felt/heard air both ways. No fuel filter built into the line. It has the 4bbl carb and there was not filter in line housing.  Reconnected the line there and air flows through and into carb.  Okay, unless it is the slack in the timeing chain, I am stumped. Any ideas, please reply
