Ok ladies and gentleman i'm getting ready to start the restoration on my 79 F-250 with a 400 Modified and i'm wanting any and all ideas for performance gains out of the motor. Any ideas?

400 or 351 modified there ok they can be built to be torgue monsters but they are know for weak bottom ends and rear main seal leaks i would suggest and up grade for a lil extra money and more avail parts is a 460 and they use the same bell housing so the trans will bolt up  my best friend bought a 79 150 4x4 with 6" lift and 38" tires had a 351m in it rebuilt went thru 2 rear mains in a year and a half and it only got 11 mpg  my 88 f-350 crewcab with 460 gets that witha trailer behined it hope this helps  sam
