I have a 94 GT 5 speed that I purchased a few months ago she is bone stock nothing at all done to it except exhaust.  Sometimes it runs fine with decent oil pressure then all of a sudden the gauge will drop and there is no oil pressure.  If I shut it down and let it sit for a few mins and start it back up the pressure usually comes back.  I'm not sure if I should replace the the pump or what just very puzzling the way it acts. Any information is greatly appreciated thanks J.T.

I'm no mechanic (yet), but I would start with checking to see if the oil pump needs replacing. Before that though, see if there are any leaks. Even a small leak can cause something to the effect of what you are experiencing with the high pressure. I would not run it hardly at all unless absolutely neccessary. If the oil pump goes, your engine will quickly start to rip itself apart from the inside out. Had a Taurus that did that to me. Oil pump went out, spun two different rod bearings and snapped two other pistons in four different cylinders. It completely seized. I found the metal shavings too late on the dipstick after all was said and done. Just be careful. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the info I figured I would prolly have to replace the oil pump.  190 views figured someone might have some more insight but oh well.  It will be quite a job to replace the pump without pulling the motor.  I will have to remove or lower the rack and pinion to make room to get pan down.  I'm hoping there won't be any big chunks of metal in it key word hoping haha.  You did catch my attention with the small leak thing didn't know about that.  The valve cover gaskets are leaking a little.  The thing that puzzles me is that if I let the car sit for three or four days then drive and baby it not revving above 3 grand seems to run fine.  But as soon as I try to hot rod it through first and into second the pressure goes down.  Almost as if something is blocking the pickup screen.  I will prolly just have to put it on jack stands and pull the pan and see what I can find.  Thanks for the reply.

No problem!!! I hope everything works out for you and your GT! I hadn't even thought of checking the pickup screen. That could be quite possible. It would explain how the engine starts to complain above 3,000 RPM. The pressure needed is too high and the screen blockage would starve the engine of oil. The screen could be covered (or partially) with sludge from a lack an oil change. I know the oil pump is usually complicated to change. Checking the whole oil pan would also be a good idea. Although the car may not be leaving oil spots when parked (the oil pan gasket might be bad as well), it could be leaking while the car is moving. Again, good luck!!! You'll have to let us know how it all works out!
