Hi guys! I`m a mustang racer from over the pond in the UK!I currently race a 1998 4.6GT a few tweeks but nothing to fancy, currently running low 13`s at 101mph and wanting to go alot faster!!!!!! so i managed to get my hands on a 1997 cobra motor `teksid` block & `b`heads which i now arn`t the best but you can`t afford to be fussy over here as they are few and far between!! I either want to turbo it with a single big turbo or find a way to put a top mounted blower on it  Any advice or info is welcome.I have included a link to a video of one of my runs down the strip.

cheers steve

I know this might sound like a broken record, but you should do whichever you think would be the best.

A large turbo would be great for making power up top and would probably have a fair amount of lag. This may give you a "half track" car. Meaning that the car would be simply okay in the eighth but haul after that. I would suggest a sequential "twin" turbo kit. While not essentially twins, the use of a smaller turbo for the low end and a larger turbo for the top end would be the best idea.

If the car has substantial power on motor for the 60 foot, you could probably get away with just a larger turbo. If tuned correctly, boost should come in just after you get full traction and have less of a chance of blowing the tires off.

If you wanted to use a blower, there are also pros and cons. A supercharger will give you all around power but it might be less than a twin turbo kit. However, blown engines typically are more consistent and are known to hold up slightly better. A turbo can sometimes overboost and cause serious damage. Not that a blower can't, but it has a less chance.

Although I prefer all motor passes, a well set up turbo car could run great. Using a large turbo on a well built engine, a built transmission with a transbrake, and one hell of a rear end, you'd have a serious contender. Using a transbrake would help you get closer to or in boost before you launch and should let you rail the other car out of the gate.

A blown car could do the same.

I hope this helped you out! Good luck!!!
