Hey guys, I need your help.  Im trying to buy a 89 coupe that has been completely gone through and I wanted to know what I should pay for it.  You guys are the pros, so I was hoping for your help PLEASE.  The paint was done on a rotisserie with 12 coats of sonic blue applied as well as the entire undercarriage & inside of fenders por 15ed.  Ive seen the before and after photos as well as pics of the entire build process.  There was never any rust, not in the quarters, trunk, or k-member.  The interior was so fresh, that to replace it would be a sin.  This is what's been done:  The engine bay has had all holes sealed, a 4core aluminum radiator, msd 6al ignition and full distributor kit, 306 motor with gt-40 intake, powerdyne 6lb. sc & anderson pipe, etc.  He's running 30lb. injectors, and so fourth.  Mac 1 5/8 primary shorties with h-pipe & no cats., just dynomax mufflers. The tranny is a TKO 3550 with a king cobra clutch & pro 5.0 shifter with protective bellhousing.  An aluminum driveshaft mounts to 4.10 gears inside of a svt girdle and splined axles.  The wheels are cobra R with 11" out back wrapped in nitto 555r tires and encasing full cobra disk brake conversion with Wilwood proporting valve.  What I thought was bad ass is the front end has been fitted with a d&d tubular k, with full coils and tokico illuminas on all fours.  Motorsport subs. welded and certified to a 6pt. cage with easy outs thats been painted the same svt cobra blue.  I like that the rear seats have been retained and full interior with the only guages being on the a-pillar and digital.  The only other thing I can think of, is that every molding, including hood - hood to cowl - windows - doors - sills - & trunk, have been replaced.  The car is in AMAZING CONDITION and has only tacked on 100+ miles since build.  I need to know what you crazy gearheads would put out for this thing, so I dont get suckered.  PLEASE!!, before he sells it to some camaro enthusiast.
Also, what kind of power would you say this things producing.  Both in rwhp & et.  The reason why I ask, is because his estimates seem to be bogus to me.  An approximate output of 625 to the rear wheels is what hes stated, yet I could have swore, that intake cant handle any more than 425 at the crank.  Between stock compression, and his injector size, what would you guys say???  I figure with the sc, it has to be high 300's in hp & 1/4 in mid 12's ????  HELP HELP HELP Thanks always . . .

First an foremost, the value of something is equal to what someone will pay; what you and I would pay for something could be totally different. With that being said, it sounds like the car 'looks' really nice. I haven't seen it, though. One thing I can give you advice on is DON'T fall in love with a car over the way it looks; it can cloud your vision, and you could be kicking yourself down the road. The biggest thing here is it looks like this guy has lied about the HP output of the engine, which would make me wonder what else he's lying about. To answer the ques. about the intake, a good friend of mine had 575wrhp w/ a ported Cobra intake, and although you can't port the upper of a GT-40, I've seen them produce in the 500hp range, although it was probably a slight bottleneck. With a Powerdyne blower and w/o any heads/cam upgrades, this car is probably in the 270-340rwhp range. Before I'd buy this car, I'd take someone that has auto-body experience, and a good mechanic to check this car out THOURALY before I paid a dime for it. W/o heads and major engine upgrades and a lowly Powerdyne blower, which I wouldn't want anyway, so it would be useless, I'd say, sight unseen, I'd pay $5500-6000 MAX, IF everything checks out.

7, I really appreciate your reply, but isnt your price a little ridicolous.  He has shown me over $26K in receipts!! and the entire car has only been complete for the last 100~ miles.  Of course something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but do you even know for instance, what a rotisserie paint job is??  No offense, I see you as my friend since you replied, but I just wanted an accurate estimate before I buy.

This type of paint job (which he has pics. of), is done when they COMPLETELY STRIP THE CAR & attach at the bumpers a pole rotating the entire assembly.  Meaning the entire drivetrain & accs., the interior, all panels, & glass are all separated & meticiously sprayed; paint the car in every crevace & then reassemble THE COMPLETE CAR.  These types of paint jobs range from $7 - 11K; how could you tell me the entire car is only worth $5500???  All fox-bodies go for $4 - 6K on  the low end, what kind of enthusiast are you to say its worth the same as a used kia???  Im sure you know more than me on these '79 - '93 platforms, but come on.  Another area that is worth more than your entire car estimate is the suspension. A tubular k-member with full coils, 5way adjustable drag shocks on all four, and cobra R wheels holding 13inch slotted rotors costs more than what your saying the whole car does.  And we havent even mentioned the sc 306, tko tranny, or rear.  Are 5.0's really not worth anything, especially the notchbacks?????  Im kinda nervous now, I thought for sure, 1 fully done up would be worth a little more.  Id appreciate a reply, as well as anyone else that has an opinion on these cars, PLEASE.  I hate to say it, but Im a lot more familiar with the fastbacks, and mark VII's, but having a subscription to mm&ff makes it kinda hard to not have a 5.0, you know??  However!, if all those real world cars in there are danglin' around $5k, then I mind as well go to chevy for sports car quality.  For pics. of my '67 fastback in primer, go to monello@excite.com & Ill send photos; it runs high 11's . . .

First of all, I wouldn't buy a car that I've never seen, so therefore, this ques. is unfair from the very start. As I said, obviously, I haven't SEEN the car. My point was, if this guy is LYING about the engine/ HP out put, how do YOU KNOW that he's telling the truth about the paint job?? How do you know if the car was sanded & prepped CORRECTLY?? Hence, that's why I recommend that you take someone w/ you that has auto-body experience, and a mechanic to check the drive train out. Point is, if these things have been done incorrectly, or haven't been done AT ALL, then that DIRECTLY AFFECTS what the car is worth. Moreover, a car that's been restored/customized incorrectly is even worth less, because you then have to go back and un-do what's screwed up, then re-do it right. Anyways, it's your $$$$$, so do what you want.

And I consider you a friend; Just trying to help out.  One of the worst feelings in the world has to be when you get taken, especially when it envolves thousands of dollars.  Be prepared to check out ANY car that you consider to buy, top to bottom, front to back, inside and out.  I know it's hard because sometimes emotions tend to get in the way.  Always treat it like a business decision.  Good luck!
