You can't really make a V6 sound like the Boss because you're missing 2 cylinders. You can try and imitate the V8 sound, but it will not always sound too great.

Yea you can, make it sound similar to a V8, go around and check some the exhaust kits out there to see which makes a good sound. Also getting a cold-air intake will help your car sound louder.

How does a Boss 302 sound? If you just want it to sound like a V-8, it ain't gonna happen. You'll end up waisting your time and money. You can buy some exhaust systems that will sound performance oriented, but it is impossible to duplicate the sound of a V-8 without having 8 cylinders. I'd just trade it in on a GT, or by an older 'Stang and use the V-6 for daily driving.

Turn your stereo speakers upside down so they face the street. Get a 200 watt amplifier. Record the Bullit chase scene and play it at full volume as you drive around. Actually, the Bullit Mustang had a 390, but short of doing an engine swap, that is as close as you are going to get....

You will never get your V6 to sound like a V8, but there is a guy that lives up the street from me and he has a 2002 Stang and V6 with a wicked sounding exhaust.
He told me he purchased a a true dual midpipe, with a single cat on each side, I think from Magnaflow, removed his existing dual to single midpipe and cats and replaced it with the above. He then purchased a Magnaflow Magnapack cat back system and had that installed.
Let me tell you it is deep, throaty and loud sounding and it really sounds mean, but it sounds like a V6, a very mean V6. He also has a Densecharger cold air kit and a chip.
I have heard a number of V6's with catback systems on them, none sounded as mean and loud as the one above.
Hopefully that helps.

I think a nicely tuned exhaust on a V6 sounds great. When I was a kid, there were a few Capri V6's (one of them was in a Datsun 510) in town with exhaust resonators and nice sounding pipes. They got plenty of respect just sounding like V6's because everybody knew they could outhandle the V8's and out accelerate the inline 4's.
Ford has done a great job of getting their Mustang V6's to come out of the factory with decent HP.

So what did that guy get an H-pipe or what? Can you give me some more details on what he did? You say it sounds loud, but does it sound good? I don't want a loud exhaust that sounds crappy. I'll leave that to some of the ricers.

Hey,
No it did not sound crappy. As I stated above it sounded real mean. It had a very deep sound and even at higher rpms it sounded really mean.
What he did with the h pipe, is made a true dual exhaust system. A lot of guys just buy a catback with a single muffler with dual outlets out the back to make it look like dual exhaust.
He removed the standard midpipe that comes with the motor, with 4 cats and bolted in a dual exhaust h style mid pipe, with two cats, to the exhaust headers and then bolted in a Magnaflow dual exhaust catback system. His stang now has a 'true' dual exhaust system.
Hopefully that makes it easier to understand. It sounds real mean, not crappy sounding or like the ricers.

Did he have the H-pipe custom made or did he buy it from a company? I know that MAC sells H-pipes for the V-6. Thanks.

Does any one know of any other ways to make a V6 sound nice? I have heard that making a V6 into a true-dual exhaust will make you lose power.
