Hello everyone,

i need help. i am sorta a new driver and am intersted in purchasing a mustang. money is a issue for me, so i am not nearly rich.  for those that own one (which problably isa good majority of you) would you recomend it? i like a car with good acceleration but then again i am worried about gas. Are they bad on gas? and insurance... how bad are they on insurance? i live in florida and i am 18. any help thoughts suggestions. i am grateful for any help!

well, from my experience, starting out with a 1988-1993 Mustang (Mass Air -not- Speed Density) w/ a 5.0 is a good starting point.  You can find a relatively clean car for cheap, parts are a good price, the aftermarket has tons of parts for it, blah blah blah.  I started out with a stock 5.0 with an automatic.  I'm not sure of the exact gear ratio, but it was something like 2.08:1, which i found really good for gas mileage (my Mustang was a lot better on gas than my 4.3 S10 ever was), and as long as the motor is still in good running shape, it still has enuf shnutz of the line to beat your standard street racer.  Anyway, just my two.3 cents.

5.0L V8 came in both GT and LX trim for the 88-93 years, and into the next model, altho I'm not sure till when.  The 5.0 was replaced with the 4.6L modular V8 around the '98 mark I think.  If I had to get another 'stang, I'd stick with the 5.0L for now, again tho, just my two cents.

The  fox body mustang Gt And lx Came with the 302 5.0. The 94-95 mustang aka the sn95 mustangs came with the 5.0 as well. Its wasnt untill 96 ford started puting the 4.6 engines in the Mustangs. If you do get an older mustang I would Change the air filter, plugs, wires, and for better gas mileage. A stock 5.0 does pretty good on gas if you have a good tune up done but like any car if you hot rod it you will use more fuel. If I was you for your 1st Mustang I would look on ebay and at some near by car lots. Maybe you can find one that been in a "light" fender bender for cheap. Dont be in a big hurry to buy a mustang if its not what you want wait and the right deal will come along. Save a few bucks and get a mustang you really want.
