Why mod a V6 Mustang?

Possibly I'm starting a fire with this question, but why do people mod V6 Mustangs? I understend the import view. There's not much to choose from in the import high end (EVO, WRX, SE R, etc) and most are pretty expensive so tricking out a civic is much cheaper, but a V6 Mustang? Why not buy a GT instead? They are cost effective, and also gas eff (If you keep your foot off). I own a GT and would never think of trying to make my car into a Cobra, if I wanted one I'd buy one. So why try? I'm not aiming this question at regular V6 drivers but at the ones taking theirs to drag strips and putting superchargers on them. That seems like a waste of time. Sure a V6 is quick with a supercharger and would run circles arround my '01, but if I spend the same cash you do and put a supercharger on mine, I'd blow your doors off. It just seems like a waste of resources to me.

I agree '01, why even bother.  I know we are all entitled to an opinion, so hold on for some strong one's.

My girlfriend and grandma must be different too.....they both drive 6's.  And their gas mileage is only slightly better than mine......what a waste.

I think Ford and all other American car manufactures should refrain from even dropping blocks under 8 slugs into 'pony' or 'muscle' cars.  Take the poser-package off the market.  "You want a V6 kid?  Well, they don't put them in the Stang, but we have this 4-door Tauras over here......"   Go buy a Camry, ya know.

Even worse yet are those stupid kid-idiot imports with the 'f'in wings and body kits.  Plus they put those coffee-can exhaust on them, so they can announce to the world they drive a four banger.  Nothing, nothing sounds as wonderful as healthy exhaust behind an 8.......nothing.

Why don't the top-fuel guys run V6's?  Hmmmmm.

YEAHHHHHHH, cop I have been thinking that same way my whole life i just absolutely hate seeing v6 stangs and I think to myself why didn't they just buy a v8 because theirs barley any mpg differance and I don't like foriegn cars for crap and I hate those big ass mufflers on them and they sound horrable. When I read what you said I started cracking up because I think the same way you just put it so thanks for saving me the typing.

Yeah,

Please don't get me started!!  I was just expressing the tip of the iceberg with my comments.  If you buy a V6, fine.  Just put gas in the damn thing and drive it, okay.  Please, please don't mod the g.d. thing.  You bought it for cheaper insurance and fuel economy (3mpg lol), so why kill both by trying to make the sum-b*tch fast?????  Traffic tickets have a special way of increasing insurance rates.  And upping the engines output requires more fuel.  So when it's all said and done you deside you want to sell your car, yet all you have to offer the consuming public is a modified (less reliable) V6...........congrats!

I personally do not have anything against V6 Mustangs. They are much better than the 4cyl fox bodies, and quicker to boot. I also understand that many V6 mod-ers are younger (I couldn't afford a Mustang when I was in high school) But please, spare Mustangs from the import useless mod craze! Show some respect for this car and it's heritage. Don't "tune" a V6 just because it's all you can afford! I also own a Mazda Pretege5, but I don't mod it! It's a daily driver, not a race or muscle car. Show some respect. Want to mod an economy car? Buy a Honda. I'll have fun blowing your doors off like any other cheap import. Case in point, some punk kid tried racing me in his post '99 V6 Mustang. Sad. Not even a contest. I wouldn't be foolish enough to take on a Cobra in my mostly stock '01. I guess his "boomy" muffler gave him false hopes. That's Ok, he probably went home and watched The Fast and the Furious and cried himself to sleep. I'm done, enough lamenting.

Why didnt you just get the Cobra?  It would have been more sensible to start out with the highest possible hp right?  Its no different than someone modding a 4 banger Civic.  I cant say that I would purposely go out and buy a V6 Mustang to mod, but if I had one why the hell not.

Why mod a V6?? For better performance!! Initial purchase of

a V6 is less than a V8! Insurance is cheaper!

I would hesitate to radically mod a Cobra because they

have a higher resale in well maintained stock form.

V6s are everywhere and one for a young person to modify is

an excellent and practical idea! We have all encountered some idiot with more money than brains who buys a V8..

does no mods and barely any maintainance. I can respect a guy with limited funds who can "make a silk purse" out of this underdog car.

Plus, there are 3 times as many V6 cars as V8s!! Any rightous modification will get more attention.

If my 6 beats your 8, I am a genius and a hero.

If your 8 beats my 6, you are a bully and lack enough confidence to tackle other V8s.

Let's see...There are great arguements for both directions

and everyone has priorities. Personally I appreciate the

ingenuity and hard work it takes to pull performance from

ANY vehicle.

Ok wait, how much $$ are you talking about there? That's not even realistic. Sure with enough capital one can make almost any vehicle quick. A twin turbo set up could run $6000+ and the effort to tune it. Your rebuttal is irrelevant.

Your accounting skills must be amazing txstang! You can really make $500 go a long way. Let's run down the ckecklist to make a V6 up to par with a V8 Gt.

+67 Hp (do this any way you like)

+77 lb.-ft torque (again any way you like)

New suspension package

New front rotors

Larger wheels and tires

Dual high flow exhaust

Stronger transmission and rear end

Wow, all that for $500! I'm impressed. Listen up, just because you car will almost catch up to a post '99 with a $500 mod doesn't mean it's the same. Hp is not everything. How about handling and braking? Forgot about that didin't you? You can go out now and buy a stock '01 Gt with 5spd and under 30K miles for less than $16K. Or you can buy a V6 for $3000 less. Big deal. I just find it amusing that you V6 guys are making fun of import tuners when you are guilty of the same crime.
