ok.. i have just reasently bought an 84' coupe, but there is a piston rod bent and the motor might have seised. well thats what the previouse owner says. he's a good friend of mine but he never said if it started up again after it died on him. so im not really sure if i should just upgrade to the 5.0 (which i already have in my garage) or to just leave it as a v6. the car is extreamly clean inside and out, but the paint color is that really ugly tan color. i picked up the car for $200.00 and thats pretty good for having a bent piston rod.....

I prefer the subtle insult.....but outright, offensive insults in uppercase letters works too.  Helps to paint a visual image of you sitting at home with the vein popping out of your forehead.

I have a 2000 Mustang.  It began as a bone-stock automatic coupe.  I have made many modifications to the suspension, brakes etc.  I have a V6 stroker that is making 355 RWP (on a Mustang Dyno).  I built this car because it was a challenge...It is easy to find off the shelf parts for a V-8...There are not too many performance parts available for a v-6.  I respect all Mustang Guys, and I believe that we modify our cars out of a passion for the car.  Give the v-6 guys their due... If any of you v-6 guys are interested in the mods I have made...Contact me docal54@yahoo.com

Why  mod a V-6 mustang?  Because when you mod a small motor and beat the guys with the bigger motor you get twice the respect!  i've got a buddy that smokes people with his 4-cylinder stang. Now thats cool!  350 horsepower 4-cyl.

Ok i have have a question. i just got a 2000 v6 mustang stock for $1000 from my cousin. it only has 60000 miles on it. i have only $5000 and can't even get near the amount of money needed to buy a v8 stang. i would love to have one but i plan on having this car for quite some time. i want to mod it correctly since i don't have a lot of money. i am wanting to mod it not to race or claim i got a v8 when i don't. i want to mod it to suit my lifestyle. i understand that there is a lot of controversy over this and i just wanted to know what mods i should properly do to make the car that i will probably have for the next 7 years be nicer? so pleaese don't jump on me for wanting to do this, i understand that v8 are better and will kick my v6's ass any day. i respect that and realize i have a not so powerful car but i really want to make it a little more respectable than it is now. so don't jump my ass for wanting to do this i just want to know what mods are decent to make my v6 a little nicer and more comfortable of a ride.

Ok. i can understand both sides of the complaint. my gf has an 07 V6 with exhaust, rearend, cai, custom wheels and tires, and suspension kit,it is pretty quick. we plan to  slap a supercharger on top. i drive it like i stole it all the time and it will def lite up the tires. i have also narrowly outrun some V8. her stang has everything a V8 has except the motor and we got it for 10000 less than wuta gt costs. But i feel ur V8 pain. Though her car is fun i would never trade it for my 03 Marauder. it has a 03 cobra 4.6 stock running 12.9s. I love it. but for a daily driver it will put a toll on ur wallet so i drive hers. they both r fun.

To the young man with the 2000 3.8 v6.

The best place to start with your car is the suspension. A bone stock v6 mustang handles poorly.  Get a rear sway bar it will bolt right on (you can get a used one from MPS in Georgia as well as a whole bunch of other stuff).  Invest in upper and lower control arms too (Steeda has a nice suspension package for a 2000 v6).  Next front struts and rear shocks. KYB makes an inexpensive shock and strut and it is much better than stock.  Next upgrade brakes, at least front brakes ( I have Cobra rotors and calipers on mine, and it is a simple bolt on). Finally get wheels and tires. a popular one for V6 guys is Bullit style wheels( you should be able to get 17X8 wheels and good tires for under $1000.00

The next mod that I would recommend is a cold air induction system (BBK), underdrive pulleys,  MAC headers and H-Pipe and a good exhaust system (flow masters work well).  You still should have plenty of your $5000.00 left.

See my posting for information about my v6.  at skulljockey.

Good Luck on your build

just putting my 2 cents in.. my first mustang was a 95 3.8..as a young kid living on his own, going to college, playing hockey and working to pay for it all. buying my very own mustang at the time was not that easy...it didnt matter if it was a 4, 6, or 8..i saved up, did research and finally bought my dream car, the mustang, all on my very own..now what new mustang owner doesnt want to work on his car and customize it to make it his very own...but with a new car payment and the mustang insurance bill each month, money for mods doesnt come all that easy...either working that extra day a week, or working during vacation and taking the vaca pay to add a dual exhaust or cai were the things you wanted to do for your mustang and made make you happy learning how to work on your car...not all of us were lucky enough to have the money for an 8 banger but owning a mustang and working on it when you got the chance was more than enough at the time..now owning a 92gt, the thrill of a 5.0 engine throwing you into the back of your seat makes your realize that this is what you really dreamed of your whole life but for those few years, your dream car was still what you owned at the time...so i know the muscle heads will always make fun of the kids out there driving the v6, but you have to realize that for some kid out there, this may be the best he can do and he couldnt be more happy with it

well seems everyone is getting in on this topic so hears how i feel.  You can pick up either vehicles and a pretty close to the same price. yes the 8 cylinders are a little easier and cheaper to buy parts for, but for someone that is just getting into the hobby a 4.6 crammed under the hood is a little intimidating.  A 5.0l not so much but a lot of these people probably don't want a fox body.  And when you think of it the grand nationals, regal T-Types, 4 cylinder turbo stangs, the 3.8 supercoupes all had enough power for a normal person and all had great potential, and with the advancements in forced induction putting a turbo on a v-6 stang is signifacantly less fabrication work than a 4.6 or a 5.0l do to the amount of extra room.

P.S. i have been in some crazy fast imports

Crazy fast imports, and crazy fast diesels too! I'm happy to drive the wife's 06 V6 Mustang. Great economy and easy to get around in. If I want to run fast, I'll break out my fuel hog F-350.

The real problem is that there are V-6 stangs that will beat the V-8s. Don't get embarrassed!
