I could care less if anyone answers this. I just want to make a statement. Show some respect to Mustangs and their heritage! Please don't be a fool and make yourself and other Mustang drivers out to be idiots. Too many people as of late have said to me, "Oh, you drive a Mustang." As in, "Oh you're one of those pick on people, drive like a moron, I'm a stupid jock people." Why is this? Because many get behind the wheel and think they're a Superman. This is why cops pick on us. Leave useless stoplight reving to Harley owners. Are you racing someone? If so rev all you want, if not don't be a moron. Do you have to peel out at every stop sign? This isn't fun, it's being an idiot. Morons like that are the reason my insurance on my 2001 Gt is so high.
ffice ffice" />> >
Case in point. A local Kid (works at McDonalds) drives (probably given by mommy and daddy) a 99' Cobra. The town I live in is rather affluent so this isn't a surprise. After some reckless use of Cobra badges, some hideous clear out tail lights, and more tribal stickers than I can count he was ready to terrorize our small town for the entire summer. I can't count how many times I saw this kid driving like an absolute idiot. Long story short, this Cobra now sits outside a local body shop with the entire front end caved in. This is what happens when you don't respect a car with 300+ Hp.
> >
Here's some simple rules:
1: Just because somebody sits beside you at a stop light doesn't mean he wants to race
2: The engine (in most cases) does not require reving to stay running
3: Don’t give a stupid (note stupid) KID a car with that many HP
4: Steer clear from anything people put on ricers (clear out tail lights, wings, etc)
5: Anyone who cares knows it's a Gt, Cobra, etc. No need for 2600 badges stuck on the car
6: Exhaust does not have to be louder than hell to work properly (I do exhaust, I know)
7: Are you warming your tires? No? Then don't peel out everywhere
8: Maintain your car, (primer is meant to be painted, not a finish application)
9: Everyone knows Mustangs are fast, have fun with them, don't be an idiot!!!

Very good point. I all to often see idiot kids burning up the streets with there pre 94 5.0 litre under maintained Mustangs.(Mostly because that is the only Mustang they can afford not to bad mouth people who drive them) Most of the Mustangs I see doing this stuff are very poorly taken care of making it even worse. I saw a teenager this summer try to run a yellow light and make a left turn. He hit the gas to hard and ended up bringing the backend around and spun out in the intersection. And of course instead of just tuning around he decided to burnout and throw a pathetic 180 and took of like a bullett. I just shake my head when I see this crap. Yes a Mustang is fast and if you nail the gas yes it will spin it tires but everyone at that intersection isn't impressed with this guy they just think he is an moron who cant control his car. This guy was probably living out his Fast + Furious fantasies thinking that everybody was jealous of his sports car. Many young kids who are new drivers do not have the proper experience to handle these machines. That is why insurance rates are ridiculoisly high to keep young people out of these cars. This also means the rest of us have to suffer. But unfortunatley a Mustang is a very low budget muscle car that is readily availible to teenagers.

What, are you one to deside who drives what? Sounds more Stalinist than I.
V8 Mustangs are "low budget"....yet "not affordable", hmmmmmm. Contradictions?.......must be rooted in typical false perceptions.

well lets see.,i also hate the people that act like a *** for no reason. but there is a right place and time for driving like a dumb ass. old back roads is how i learned to get of the line in my 88 5 speed GT when i was 17. not at stop lights for no reason. i learned how to heal-toe on back roads, not in the middle of a four lane! i have been known for some stop light action, but not before i learned how to drive.,i just hate when people think they can drive well and can't!
kids need to go out of town to fire up there cars. where theres noone to hit!

responding as a "young" driver i'm 23 and own a 5 liter, i agree that it's a really bad idea to leave intersections and side streets spinning and swerving, especially when there are people around, BUT!! that doesn't mean everyone without grey hair are like that .. i leave all my "fun" driving for the backroads, with no cars or people around (well some people), and who's to say that because a person is older they drive any better, or can "handle the power", it depends on the individual.
What i hate is when you see a couple of cotton heads driving a brand new cobra , corvette what ever and the car never passes 3000 rpm, .. i bought a mustang for the power no other reason , they don't ride the best, the gas mileage sucks but they have a lot of balls, why not use it , (in the right place at the right time of course), but i figure people don't buy them to cruize like an old granny, or do you??

Take it easy buddy, I'm 26. I'm talking about high school kids (16 to 19 yr old). You've had your license for 7 years. Long enough to learn how to handle a Mustang.

Thats true .. i have the same opinion about all of those fast and furious wannabeees , can't even shave but think they are the kings of the roads. I've had alot of them want to race with me at the lights, with their hondas etc. , what a joke.
By the way i've had sports cars since a year after i got my liscence, "real" sports cars , V-8's, never in any trouble, but not every one has the same mentallity,

By young I was refering to new licence holders. I believe a mustang is two powerful for this age group. Anybody over 20 has been most likely driving for at least four years and can handle a Mustang. I find it funny that you are criticizing me for telling people what to do. Why dont you take a look at your 20+ posts about V6's. And I said Mustangs were low budget. LOW BUDGET DOESN'T MEAN AFFORDABLE. A $30,000 car could be affordable depending on your finacial situation. It doesnt mean it is low budget.

I'm an 18 year old who is daily driving a 1967 WORKED 302....im making the worked part stand out because it has had a lot of work done to it and is very powerful. and im not saying work done to it as in intkae and some #### muffler that makes it sound like a wet fart goign down the road. ive been into mustangs for as long as i can remember and ive never once been into an accident or anythign like that, and still just for liability (under my parents name so it would be cheaper...or so i thought) it is still about $200.00 a month, just for insurance. i live about an hour away from atco raceway in jersey so thats where i race, and still i have to pay a #### load of money for insurance...because im a fulltime college student, and part time worker it gets hard....all im sayin is it all depends on the dirvers, there are people out there that cant handle the power of a stock civic lx, and yet they pay probably half of what i do insurance wise...and i fully agree that anyone who burns out at every stop light or tries to race around town shouldnt have a car period only because they put other people in danger, and other peoples cars

You're the exception to the rule. For every one of us there is 10,000 of them. Once again I said stupid kid. I've met some stupid kid 35 yr olds before. Sad but true.

This is a hot topic! People with a view like MisterBlank are too typical. They'll *** everyone in a certain age group because of perceived "inexperience".
Yes, there are new drivers who can't drive worth a shiite, and old farts (not that you're one) who can't either. Street market disaster as case in point. I've seen 16-19 year olds that could out-drive Andretti.
BUT THIS *** IS RIDICULOUS!! THIS IS ONE OF THE ONLY AREA'S IN AMERICA WHERE PREJUDICE AND DISCRIMINATION ARE ALLOWED!! I got fuqt for 9 years on insurance because of men that think like this.
"Yeah," you say, "these boys are good enough to die in a war for me, but should not be allowed to drive a LOW BUDGET car with me." The only difference I can see is that young men have a greater sense of invinsibility. I did, and as I've grown mentally I understand more and more about the fragility of being mortal.
Just because you may have been too inexperienced for a Stang when you were young doesn't make others as incompetent. If you never had a quick car and "charred the meats" through an intersection as a teenager, that's just too damn bad. Boys will be boys.......young men do this sh*t, it's all part of growing up in an environment where owning and having assets is allowed........and to think and speak otherwise is un-American.
The men who made these "high-risk" insurance laws should be shot......as well as those that are in kahoots with them!

Wait a minuet here. I feel you are wrong. Handing a 16 or 17 year old kid a 250+ Hp sports car is like handing them a loaded gun. One out of a hundred new drivers can responsibly drive these cars. Note the word responsible. I too have fun with my car and often speed and drive different than I do in my Mazda, but there's a time, place, and limit to this. Kids don't know that. In high school my buddy's mom had a brand new '94 Mustang a let him drive it often. I can't count how many times he about killed us in that thing. Did he drive that way in his '79 F100 custom? Nope.
When you go to F1 driving school what do they start you out driving? A 700+ Hp V8 car? No, they start you out in a mod chassis with a 4cyl Neon motor. Why is this? Not many drivers can handle a full-on F1 car. You need to learn how to drive it first and using a car for experienced drivers isn't the way to do it. The "Give them a fast car and let them improvise, they'll be ok." attitude is why so many teenagers die in car accidents each year. The bashed Cobra I listed earlier is a perfect example.
ffice ffice" />> >
As for "high risk" insurance. I could not agree with you more. Yes, I do feel its crap. But why did it start in the first place? Kids behind the wheels of cars they weren't equipped to drive. I would have killed for a '93 Mustang Lx 5.0 when I was a Sophomore in '94. But hindsight being 20/20, I would have wrecked the damn thing. My '72 Maverick with a 200 straight 6 was plenty at the time. Will my kid drive a sports car when they first get their license? No way! Am I being an a-hole? No. I care for kids and don't want to receive a call at 2 in the morning telling me they had to pry my child off a concrete pillar after smashing into it at 145 MPH. Will my kid drive my sports car. Of course, and I'll teach him how to handle it. When he's ready, I'll let him drive it.
>
One last thing, the "boys will be boys" statement is a cop-out. That is one of the most retarded, narrow minded things a father can say. Come on. If your kid has a vehicle capable of leaving a patch through an intersection and is willing to do it, he is the very problem I'm talking about. The "Boys will be boys" crap is why we all get screwed on our insurance. >

I am sure your opinion would change if a 16 year kid driving a 220 + Hp car rams into you or one of your family members because he is trying to act out a fast and furious fantasies. Yes some teenagers are very responsible however the ones we are talking about are the new drivers who's Mommy and Daddy bought them a nice little sports car to screw around in. This age group generally is very valnerable to there peers and to what they see on TV etc. If a kid has a fast car there is a good chance he will drive it fast. I remeber when I first got my licence I was very wreckless to. But after a few close calls I matured and respected my car more. People who are not experienced enough to drive a high HP shouldn't be driving them. Do not criticize people for making a point if you yourself are just throwing insults. If you don't like arguing these points then don't. Why don't you go back to the V6 postings and continue to harass people there.

Look, not all young drivers are like that and I can prove it. I'm 24 and I have a younger cousin(17) and he is really serious about driving. I sold him 1 of my 87 cougars which I converted the engine/computer to mustang specs and since then he's done alot of mods to the car. Me and him live close by and we go down to the dragstrips on the weekends together and it pisses me off when people blame all of the younger drivers.... I've seen him driving out on the road before and he takes driving serious and when were on the dragstrip..... well thats a different story. Well my point is not aimed at you directly just why in the hell does the tiny percentage of younger drivers that mess up, run lights, get in accidents have to bring down good responsible drivers like my cousin and make his insurance a billion dollars? Are country is b.s. they say we aren't stereotypical but how come when it comes to drivers a few kids can ruin it for all of them?
