my 1988 ford mustang notchback started its life as a 4 cylinder 5-speed car with those crappy looking skinny rims and tires.  you know the ones you see on the little imports that we all hate so much.  well now my car has a 5.0 HO and is still a 5 speed car, thankfully.  the car has 207, 500 miles on it but im not so sure about the motor.  anyways, i am wondering about my springs on the front and the back.  of course i have a new set of tires and wheels off of an '85 GT.  the wheels themselves are the 15 by 7 10-holes.  the tires on the back of the car are 255/60/r15 and i had to make some of my own modifications the the fenderwells which i was a little worried about because i have read you should be able to get up to a 295 tire on the rear of these cars with out any modifications.  i didnt have to do anything major of course.  all i did was sawzall a little piece off the inside back of the fenderwell and beat the fender lip in with a hammer.  but still.  im thinking that these springs are the stock springs but i dont know and i was wondering if there was anyway of finding out.  i recently had the tires off to change the shocks and struts and i checked out the springs and i didnt find any noticeable identification.  im a little tight on money right now, im only 17 so moneys a little hard to come by, but i want to put some new springs on it.  preferably the eibach lowering springs but im afraid that the eibachs might lower it to much and my car is already very low(about 1 and half to 2 inches between tire and fender lip).  my uncle turned his '85 GT into a drag car and has the springs off his and i would like to put them on mine.  i was wondering if these springs would raise it and by how much because i love the way my car looks right now and i dont want much of a change.  any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  any questions all you need to do is ask.  thanks a lot

I know the front springs from a 4 banger to the 5.0 are different but I don't know about the rear.  If you want different springs, you could get some adjustable rear control arms that can raise or lower the spring perch.  That way you can adjust the ride height to what ever you want and still have a performance spring but if there was one thing you should NOT do is to cut any springs to fit.  The thing will ride like a floor jack if you do.  Get some springs that you want and the adjustable arms and you'll be happy.
