Does anyone have any HP or torque #s as to the difference in performance between the 1993 Cobra Computer and the A9L computer?
I have "heard" that the 93 Cobra computer actually retards timing and leans out a bit toward 6000 rpm.
My car currently uses the 93 Cobra computer with Ford 70mm MAF. I have just purchased a A9L computer and am currently looking for an aftermarket MAF to test.
Does anyone know what I should expect? I have current dyno results.

The 93 cobra came with 235hp, not to the wheels though.
Any normal 5.0 like the A9P that i have or A9L should run the stock 225. I beleave it's messued out of the back of the tranny it how ford rated it.
The 93 cobra had a bigger MAF and bigger injectors as well.

The power difference between the Cobra and a 5.0 was in the engine itself and not much was from the computer. Lord was right about the 235hp and 225hp ratings. Both were engine hp, not rear wheel hp. The Cobra had GT40 heads, Cobra intake, 24 lb injectors, 70mm MAF, a different cam with it's own part number and 1.7 rockers. The computer had different settings from the A9L or the A9P and was calibrated to a manual tranny only. It is not compatible with an automatic. Overall, it's not as aggressive because Ford SVT was making a car with manners, not power. That's why the suspension is softer than a 5.0 also.

Thanks Y'all. Eagle actually hit on what I'm trying to identify. That is, is the A9L comptuer really more aggressive than the 93 Cobra computer. I have read that there is about a 10 hp or so difference in favor of the A9L. I have finally decided to find out for myself on my own car. My car already puts down 266 hp and 280 torque with the 93 Cobra and 70mm mass air. I have just purchased an A9L computer and 75mm Granatelli mass air meter. Not sure when I'll get back to the dyno, but I hope real soon. I will certainly post the results whether they be "good" or "bad." Once I have it established then I'll get the car dyno tuned so as to maximize my setup.

Well...just installed the used (new to me) A9L computer and new mass air meter tonight. Car won't start. I don't hear the fuel pump turning on. When I put the Cobra computer back in, the car started right up. Just to be sure, I did this twice. Darn it!!

thats really is strange you bought it used right, maybe its no good, thats the one thing I can't think of right now. There is a green plug right by the computer that must be pluged in and it tells the fuel pump wha to do. Make sure it's pluged it.

The A9L is the best computer you can use in a mustang (A9P automatic) because the X3Z (cobra computer) does retard timing and cut back fuel to slow the car down at around 6000. Go A9L with a custom burned chip and you will see great improvements
