Has anyone done this switch? I've come into some money recently and am looking to spend about 20k on this car. I am buying a 514 cu ford motorsport engine making about 625 hp out of the box. And I am putting a 200 hp plate system on it. The problem I am having is what else do I need to upgrade to keep the car from twisting. I know I need a new trans and I am looking at an automatic. What axles should I use? What electrical? I figure people on this board would know. I also have to tie the frame up. What should I use for that? Lol I have alot of questions due to this being alot different project than my other mustang.

My friend did a built 460 swap on his 90 lx. Heres what he had to do. First off, the stock axle will not hold up to that kinda power, I dont care if someone says yes, it will eventually fail. Step up to a dana 60 or 9" rearend. Although if you have an 8.8" rearend, you could build it to handle that kinda power, but it will end up costing more than a junkyard axle swap. You will want to go with at least 31 spline axles. Next, to keep it from twisting, you will need to put a rollcage in it. We put subframe connectors on my friends car, and it still twisted alot(hes got around 850 whp), so we put in a 6 point rollcage. We used a c-6 with a 4500 stall that we had built to handle high horsepower. As far as electrical goes, we used msd everything. Just bought parts for a 460 . We used just slightly upgraded electrical components, nothing with "race" applications, and he runs a 10.14 1/4! In total, he spent about $11,000 for everything. So I guess if you wanted a little more, spend more. But Im just using him as reference for what he has. His car is fast, simple, but reliable. Hes had this setup for 3 years now and races almost every weekend. Im sure you have heard of alot of waht Ive told you, but this is just my 2 cents.
347 stroker, C-6 4,000 stall, 6 point rollcage, 9" rearend, bottle of laugh gas, and a pine tree air freshner.
