Hey Slapper I think you are right.  The success of the muscle car will depend on is how affordable these "new" comers will be.  Even though the vehicles to be brought out by Dodge and Chevy are a ways away, in order to complete with the Mustang they will have to be affordable.  Even though a new mustang is not cheap by any means, Ford did a lot of things to keep cost down to make them available to a broad range of folks.  I haven't heard what the projected horse power for either one of the cars will be, but I would imagine the Challenger will come with the 345 hp or the 400+hp motor and Chevy will use their LSwhatever.  I don't hardly see the late model camaro's cruising near as much as the Mustangs.  Whatever happens it will be fun.

I think that there will be a little competitive ness between the "new" muscle cars....  but the problem is that there really wont be competition.  Ford gave the Mustang 300HP which isnt bad by any means and it is still the most affordable car of the three....  but the camero will have the LS2 which is in the GTO and that it around 400hp and over 34,000 dollars.  That challenger will be putting down 425hp out of a 6.1L hemi V8 (that is in the charger SRT-8) and have a 6 speed viper trans so you know that price tag isnt gonna be pretty with that kind of power from the factory.....  without mods the mustang wont keep up....  but with the price tag.... the "competition" if you could really call it that, wont last.  Just my opinion though.

Hey, I agree that it could deffinately be fun, and the other guys had some very valid points about the stock hp and price. Bang for yo' buck, it's REALLY hard to beat the mustang right now. I might be slightly bias because I own a mustang, but I've had a Dodge Stealth, driven a couple camero's and I have friends that went and bought the new GTO and Charger the second it hit the show room floor, which was stupid because each of them had their wonderful new "muscle" car back within a week sorting out all the new car bugs. So as I said, price vs. performance, how can you beat a 300 stock HP GT at 20-24K?!? Simple, you won't with all the bells and whistles these genius' at Chevy, Pontiac and Dodge are throwing into the new camero, charger, GTO and challenger. What we're seeing is simply the "knee jerk" effect to the mustang exploding on the scene. The other worry I have about all is the new swing to fuel efficient cars. With the oil prices hitting the sky, all these new high power cars are going to have difficulty selling because of the gas guzzler factor. Bottom line, the mustang with again rise above because it's still fairly fuel friendly, and I can tell you with all this LS-2,3,4,5,9 or whatever, SRT-8000 with a viper trans and jet propelltion turbotronics, they'll have one thing in common with the Roman empire, they'll all become part of HISTORY! And let's not forget about the new SVT Cobra to come out... whenever. The Camero and Challenger can huff and puff all they want with they're 400 or 425 horses, but we'll have 550 fire breathing stallions blowing their doors off. So sorry Chevy and Dodge, but the mustang's future's so bring, we gottah wear shades.

It's definately going to be an exiting time, no one can argue that.  Even if the challenge might now be between the new mustang coming out and the charger, challenger, etc you still have all those beautiful mustangs out there with an excessive amount of HP under the hood waiting to blow the doors off something other than a freakin import or even camero.  I personally can't wait to get right next to a challenger and have him rev his engine.  Just thinking about it right now gets my adreniline going.  Here's to the mustang.

Hey Everybody,

Just had to through my two cents in, anyway the Mustang will probably cost less and all that jazz. However with GMC and Mopar making more horses stock that means one thing, supercharged and turboed Mustangs. Now this is not bad at all. Ok lets look at this for a minute.

Chevy 350-400 hp at 30,000

Mopar 400-450 hp at 35,000

Mustang 300-500hp(with superharger in MM and FF)

So the verdict is clear, No matter how much HP and Hip Mopar and chevy make the mustang can still easily upgraded to compete. Also there will always be more Mustangs than any other Muscle car. Mopar stopped in the 70s and Chevy stopped in the late 90's, which was 5 years ago.

So I sa, show me what you got, because it will never be enough.

man were can i start.everyone pretty much said it all, and BRAVOTREE said it the best. it's going to be a great few years for the muscle cars.but  gas is going to be the big propblem. dodge, and chevy didn't even think about putting out new old school cars untell ford did.the new mustang is the first of its kind.so naturly chevy, dodge is going to put out cars that have way more hp then ford. they would be dumd not too. i love mustangs.but im stell a car person. so i like all cars. but the cobra is going to kick ass out there when thay come out. and that is the one that is going to be the big bucks. and if gm dont dont get good feed back on this one.there over(when it comes to muscle cars).sorry to say it.gas is to high. but i do like the hole useing corn for gas thing there doind now.thats is whats going to keep them from doing the  MC HAMMER.

the mustang put camaro and firebird out of business last time around , this time will be no different , cheverolet saw ford capitilizing on the retro old body styles so all they are doing is trying to sell a few cars by putting alot of horsepower in them at first ,but just like everything else they are going to have to come down if they want to compete with the mustang in the sales catagory, they limit who they can sell to when the cars reach 30-37000, besides every dodge car is ugly that ive seen so far , the charger looks like a chrysler 300 thats pissed off, they put alot of horsepower in them but the cars are made cheap, but im looking forward to it, looks like im going to have to buy my charger for my 03 gt alot sooner than i planned

ya like everyone else id agree that then next few years r gonna be fun actually finding someone to race thats not rice. but the prces of all the cars

GT runs between 25-30.K 4.6 300hp,300lb

the comaro according to mph s est. 30.K LS2 400hp,400lb

the challenger est. 38.K 6.1 425hp,420lb

and the new cobra est. 44.K 5.4 supercharged 475hp,475lb

i didn't even bother to list the charger cause it's ugly as hell and s to damn over weight to be a competitor.

for me im a mustang fan i love my 04 cobra and the biggest concern i see with all these cars is the gas. i know though that the chevy comaro the ss gets 32 mpg on the freeway.
but thats because when it's cruisin ion the freeway only have the valves r closed to give it better economy fuel now i don't think that ford has done anything like that and i dought that the challenger did. but with the challenger and cobra rediculously over priced i see just the gt and ss the best out of the hole pick besides i think that the new cobra is ov er weght to weighing in at 2 tons. along with the challenger. but hp wise the gt is by far going to be out classed when all these cars come out.

I don't know how your all worried about gas mileage...i mean if everybody was as worried as you think they all are about gas, why do you see so many SUV's especially H2's running around?  most SUV's ESPECIALLY the H2 have HORRIBLE gas mileage, yet people still buy whats "trendy".

I know that the fact that the new cars have horrible gas mileage isn't gonna stop the fans/ (insert company/model here) fanatics from buying the new car, truck or whatever.

And lets face it, are gas prices ever low enough, i'm only 21 and i remember when gas prices were little over a dollar when i started driving..and i thought it was expensive, but of course i knew its not, now that i have seen how bad it can get ($5-6/gallon)

Life isn't just about gas mileage.
