I own a 89 GT 5.0 hatchback and the car is starting to need a big dose of something. The car has 159,000 hard miles and the AOD is starting to slip. The rear end is Fresh with 3.55 gears. The best I could do at the track by my house in Leeper MI, was 15.2 at 91mph. with a 1.238 reaction time (I know I was sleeping) it was the firt time at the track for me and the first pass too.
Getting back to my question, I was thinking about either rebuilding my block and putting some good pistons, crank, heads, intake, everything etc. Or just buying a 347 stroker short block an building that from summit. Which way is better.
Also, is it easy to go from a AOD trans to a 5 speed stick, I know alot for mustang junk yards have the kit for it but haven\t seen it done in a Mag or on T.V. yet.

Hi,
Open an issue of MuscleMustangs&FastFords. Go to the back few pages and look for the advertisers index. Find which page Dave's Mustang Parts is on and look at their ad for the tranny conversion. I believe they run $1250 for a complete 87-93 T-5 setup.
Building the engine would be cheaper to do yourself, but less timely if you buy a block ready to go. Also in MMFF look at DSS Inc, they have a 331 stroker kit for a grand. From most engine builders I have heard them say the 331 is better for daily driving and longevity. (Because the piston pin is further away from the rings than the 347 and has a better rod ratio.)

I wouldnt be so quick to do a $1250 conversion for a t5... I know this is only my oppinion but I know that if you took that cash and dropped it on the AOD... you would have one *** of a race ready transmission that would also handle more than a T5... I have done cars professionaly for 6 years and see ALOT of AOD and C4/C6 cars running very fast. Furthermore, I also bought my last car with an AOD on purpose.. I know you may think T5 is the way to go..but, the autos will hold thier own. Scouts honor..

Which trans you use really depends on what you want to do with the car and how good you can drive a stick.
Like CopCoupe said, you could build a great AOD with the money from the conversion. Otherwise you'd have a stock T5 when you're done and that may not be the best thing once you have had lots of engine mods.
It is cheaper to assemble your own engine, butt if you don't know what you're doing, its better left to the pros.
