if your swapping the rear just for the disk brakes i would say no i would just get a kit just remember you got to change the proporshanal valve as well due to rear disk requires more pressure as far as stopping power you wont notice the differance

aren't turbo coupe rearends 7.5"

i'm pretty sure they are. in that case you would be trading better rear brakes (that only account for 30% of stopping power) and losing your 8.8 traction lock rearend.

I don't know what year the fox went to disk brakes but that would be a better option and would also be a bolt in replacement.

Just for you info. The only fox Mustangs to have rear disk brakes were SVO's and the 93 Cobra's.

How big are the rear disk brakes on the SVO rear end?

I didn't know so I looked it up. A svo site says 11.25" for the rear. The front's are 10.91". Go figure. Here's the link. http://www.svoca.com/mainframe.html

Great link.  Thanks.  It looks like the 84-86 SVO Mustangs all had 7.5 inch rear ends, which makes sense since I heard that the 86 SVO Mustangs were a mechanical carryover from 85.  i.e. that's why they didn't have the new for '86 8.8 inch rear end.

...and here's the part where I got really confused.  Turbo Mustangs are called SVO Mustangs, where as TurboCoupe refers to our fox bodied cousin the T-bird.  What year were the T-bird Turbocoupes produced?  What year did the T-bird Turbocoupes switch over to the 8.8 rear end?

Not all Turbo Mustangs were SVO's. Ford made Mustang GT Turbo's. The SVO's were like the Cobra's are today. Limited production, and tricked out. The T-bird Turbo Coupe came out in 83. I'll bet that they had the 7.5 in them as well but I don't know for sure. I guess you're still looking for a rear? Did you ever get in touch with Eric Swarr? What was the deal with that rear I told you about?

Thanks for the lead on that one.  I contacted him and he had already sold the rear end.  He sounds like a good guy.

That's to bad. I know that was a good rear. Eric is a good guy.  I'm suprised that he didn't want to build you a rear. Oh well. I'll keep my eyes open for you.
