Ok guys...I need opinions. I just ordered my blower tonight for my car. I just wanna know how many of you have had my model and what kind of durability and service does it give you?   I am getting a Vortech S-trim, and my tuner is pullieing it for 12 lbs. boost at max RPM. I am also installing an Anderson power pipe with this combo and 42 lb. injectors with a 255lph pump. Has anyone run above 10lbs. boost without any problems?? I am leery about running 12lbs, but my tuner guy says that for my engine combo I should have no troubles at all, in fact he says thats setting it CONSERVATIVE??  My combo is...an 86 GT...with a 91 block, fairly new bottom end with rebuilt stock crank and all new bearings....freshly installed TrickFlow Track Heat heads with Felpro Pro head gaskets and ARP head bolts...with a trickflow chrome-moly valvetrain and hardened 1.6 roller rockers and B303 cam....all currently perfectly tuned with 24 lb injectors making 320hp at the wheels. Do you guys think I will be running too much boost for this??  My tuner says not...but I'm still leery....and also....who has an S-trim out there....do you like it???  Any problems with reliability??  I'm told as long as I change my oil and keep the engine maintained, the blower should live a longgggg healthy life...and this is what I want.  Thanks guys!!!

The blower w/ 12lbs of boost will probably out-last the engine.  To make sure you have enough fuel, I'd go ahead and install 30lb injectors, along w/ a T-Rex fuel pump (should come w/ the blower if buying new). This should keep blowing head gaskets to a minimum. Also, the E-303 is an excellent cam for a blower motor  (better than the B-303).  Good luck.

Well actually..I'm installing 42 lb. injectors with a 255lph pump....then my tuner is going to custom tune my chip to the entire system so that I wont have an unreliable FMU.  My main concern is running 12 lbs. boost with a stock crank and rods...but he says they can take it...esp since I just did a bottom end rebuild about 30,000 miles ago. I'm not worried about my head gaskets, I just installed Trick Flow Track Heat heads with FelPro's race gaskets with the steel-reinforced rings around the cylinders. Do you think I'll be ok running this much boost??  My tuner says that the car could really even take like 15lbs...but I dont want to go that high.

Dude, Im running a 91GT with a Ford SVO roller motor (new), GT-40 aluminum heads and GT-40 intake. Same 42 lb injectors and fuel pump, 76MM C&L, 70MM TB, and MSD ignition. I just installed a Vortech V2SQ with 8-10 out of the box (no intercooler)......and the *** made 10.5 on the first dyno pull. My weak link is the fact that I have a brand new crate engine from ford.....and they stopped putting forged pistons in them in 1992.....so I have the hyperuetectics. With the 91 short block that you have, forged pistons are a given and you dont need to worry about burning through to the top ring seat ( a slight worry with thin tops on the hypers). I was originally going to cog to 12psi, but was told I was pushing it without the forged pistons. I dont know if you have heard of them.....but the Mustang wizards at "Panhandle Performance" have their shop right down the street from me. THese guys know EVERYTHING about Mustangs ( they have had several write ups in this magazine for making Mustang hoursepower) and I did exactly what they told me to do. On the same token, they said with the forged pistons.....12psi was no problem as long as the tune was right. As for the kit you bought, I bought mine from www.joeblowracing for $2579. shipping and all. That was the best price I could find and the kit was perfect. SUPERCLEAN installation. As for power......without the blower I made 260hp at the wheels (I dont remember the torque), with the blower dialed back to 9.5 lbs.....it made 403 HP and 427 Torque...and this is through a beefed up AOD tranny. If you run a stick, you should yeild 10% more realative horsepower than I did.....plus the extra boost. In closing....I couldnt be happier with the kit and the way it runs. I cant give you any durablity info as I have only had it in the car for about 3 weeks (no problems yet) but I am told by all who know that it will last as long as I take care of it. Good luck dude.

I self-installed an sq-trim on my Bullitt stock long block at about 12k miles, under a car port, using hand tools. At 85,000 miles the car was still happily making 430rwhp, still on the stock oem motor, and was running mid lls at 119.8mph. I pulled the healthy motor and installed a VT Engines motor with a forged block and stage 2 heads looking for more HP. Found 553 and 10.90@125mph. The stock motor is still sitting there and in perfect condition. Needless to say, I am a big fan of Vortech equipment. My current project is another VT built motor Darton MID sleeve (wet sleeve)big bore block with VT heads/stage 3 cams using the long lived Vortech. Had Vortech upgrade it from an SQ to a T-Trim. It was still going strong, I just want more boost on the new motor. Almost 75K force induction miles in my daily driver, making 430rwhp, without a hick-up. What more could you ask?? BTW, customer service on my upgrade was excellent too! You can actually get people on the phone who know what they are talking about. That is rare in this day and time.

Thats great...makes me feel better about choosing my S-trim. It goes in next week. How much boost were u pushing on that stock motor?? My tuner is STILL trying to re-assure me that my 302 can take 12 lbs. boost....and I'm just scared to death that it will be too much for my stock bottom end. I heard that more than 10 lbs. on stock rods and crank is just begging for trouble, and I need this motor to last. My heads, head gaskets, valvetrain, and ARP head bolts...I KNOW can take the boost, they dont worry me....its my stock BOTTOM end of my engine that does. Any thoughts??

Already have that...I have BBK fully ceramic coated headers...with trick flow heads, Felpro head gaskets with steel re-inforced cylinder rings...and chrome moly pushrods and roller rocker arms, with bronze valve guides and seats.  Like I said...I am not worried about my top end or valvetrain...I'm worried about my BOTTOM end.

I was referring to the piston tops...

Dave Vizard told a "horror" story of running a full 80 lb nitrous bottle dry on a dyno 454 (that made 1600 HP) only to see that the engine was fine afterwards, he accounted some of the durability to the ceramic coated pistons.

About 90% of the engine masters entrants these days also use coatings extensively for the same "protection" reasons.

And these 900-1000 HP "stories" you here from the import crowd on bone stock buttom ends usually have some fine-print involving factory ceramic coated piston tops.

Just some food for thought...

The most popular companies that I know of are www.swaintech.com and www.calicocoatings.com, www.techlinecoatings.com also sells do-it-yourself coatings for many applications, and the water based solvent coatings can be baked in a kitchen oven! They are also extremely cheap, but if you aren't into a lot of hassle then swaintech is pretty reasonable for little stuff. Oh yeah and if you do get interested in the techline stuff look at the '04 June Hot Rod magazine, there is a extensive article about applying these coatings yourself.

Hope this gives you some ideas...

I'm a mod motor guy and hesitate to give too much advice out of my relm of influence, but it isn't PSI you need to look at. It's HP developed from the added flow the boost induces. Your question should be, how much HP will my motor stand and adjust your set-up accordingly. I do know there are a buch of 500hp 302s running around with stock blocks, but that doesn't necessarily mean yours will handle that. A lot depending on what sort of condition it's in and how lucky your are. You may want to stay in the 400-450rwhp max range until you think you can afford to break it. Talk to some pushrod guys and see what they say...

The kit from Joe Blow Racing was complete. Everything needed (minus the injectors and fuel pump).   Kit included: head unit, a single large bracket to mount blower and relocate altenator, blower pulley, idler pulley, belt, T-Rex FMU, T-Rex inline pump booster, MSD timing retard box, K&N filter, Filter shroud, chrome upper radiator hose (to redirect the hose clear of the blower belt), aluminum pipe to connect blower to TB, heavy plastic pipe to connect blower to MAS, all adapters for the connection of both pipes, and all the hardware.   The only things I had to buy during the installation was a smog pump delete pulley ( I deleted the smog pump when I installed the new motor and just bought a shorter belt. This set-up wont work with the blower becase the unibelt has to drop low enough to clear the new blower belt) and then of course I had to go back and buy a stock length unibelt.......THATS IT.
